In many peoples mind, the UFC is the world leader not just in combat sports but in all of sports entertainment. Most weekends we are treated with a banger of a card and some action packed, incredible fights.
We were all new to being a UFC fan once, so here is my list of 5 classic must watch UFC fights for any new UFC fan.
*All these fights are available to watch on UFC Fight Pass (www.ufcfightpass.com) - This can cost £6.99/$9.50 for a month or £71.99/$97.86 for a whole year. It is definitely worth it !
Lets get into it !
1) Jon Jones vs Alexander Gustaffson 1 (UFC 165)
Jon Jones Unanimous Decision Win (48-47 48-47 49-46)

Regarded as one of the best fights of all time, the recently hall of fame inducted fight was an action packed non stop "slug fest". Both fighters combined landed 244 significant strikes which set a UFC Light Heavyweight record. Many fans and media were quick to dismiss Gustaffson's chances in this bout as Jones was by far the most dominant champion in the UFC at the time, however Gustaffson gave Jones the toughest fight of his life.
2) Cub Swanson vs Doo Ho Choi (UFC 206)
Cub Swanson Unanimous Decision Win (29-28 30-27 30-27)

This incredible "slug fest" is a one of the most historic and significant fights in UFC history. This fight showed an astonishing amount of heart, will and determination from both fighters and after watching this fight over 10 times it still gets me going. After a semi lacklustre first round the second and third rounds are full non stop action with heavy leather being thrown by each side.
3) Dan Henderson vs Shogun Rua (UFC 139)
Dan Henderson Unanimous Decision Win (48-47 48-47 48-47)

This unbelievably violent war between 2 MMA legends is an all time great. The back and forth war was presented into the UFC hall of fame in 2018. This fight had it all, it was filled with punishing action with high level technique on display. Dana white has publicly stated that this fight is in his top 3 fights of all time.
4) Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Conor McGregor
Nurmagomedov 4th Round Submission (Neck Crank)

In what was the biggest fight in UFC history Khabib Nurmagomedov defended his belt against Conor McGregor (Not without any controversy) After months and months of constant trash talk by Conor Mcgregor including throwing a dolly onto a bus injuring fighters, Khabib and Mcgregor got to settle it inside the Octagon once and for all. The built up nerve and pressure felt also by fans is what makes this fight one to remember forever.
5) Weili Zhang vs Joanna Jedrzejczyk (UFC 248)
Weili Zhang Split Decsion Win (48-47 48-47 47-48)

Widely considered one of the best fights ever, a very technical yet action packed brawl this fight will always be remembered and will certainly be inducted into the hall of fame. Over the course of the 25 minutes, combined they landed 351 significant strikes. A nasty accidental head butt in the later rounds would leave Jedrzejczyk with a nasty hematoma making her look almost unrecognisable after the end of gruelling 25 minute championship bout.
6) Justin Gaethje vs Michael Johnson (TUF 25 Finale)
Justin Gaethje 2nd Round TKO (Knees and Punches)

Justin Gaethje arrived to the UFC at (17-0) already a well known name for being in extreme brawls. Welcoming him to the UFC, non other than Michael Johnson, another hard hitting brawler. The 2 traded insults at each other leading into the bout and the fight did not disappoint. Complete non stop action back and forth with each of them rocking each other for 9:30 minutes until Gaethje put Johnson away.
